Leonus, Neutral Good Lesser Deity; God of Lions, God of Cleansing Flame
Story of Leonus: Leonus was once a mortal, a local hero hailing from the land which would later be known as Farador. He had many adventures, of which tales are still told; however, his ascent to godhood is the most well known. It occurred that a great White Dragon came to settle in the surrounding countries; carrying off cattle and soldiers by day, and retreating to its mountainous lair far in the northeast when night fell. The neighboring states decided something must be done about it after the destruction of a number of smaller towns, and so united (if only temporarily) to slay the dragon. However, the mountains surrounding its lair were quite difficult to pass – many soldiers returned home, defeated by the terrain before ever setting sight on the dragon. Those few that managed to pass through the mountains were never seen nor heard from again. Eventually, most decided to give up and accept their fate; however, Leonus, a well – liked captain in one of the armies, rebelled against this train of thought. He left, deserting his position to travel south in search of a way to defeat the dragon. During this period, many of the other adventures he is famed for occurred. Finally, nearly six years after leaving, he returned – stronger, and equipped with the most magnificent of arms and armor, all masterfully crafted and enchanted. He ventured, alone, into the mountains, and nothing was heard for nearly a fortnight. After those two weeks were up, however, the dragon’s raids stopped; and the equipments of Leonus, as well as an equally powerful set forged from the dead dragon itself, were delivered to various lands which Leonus felt indebted to along with the message that he had ascended to godhood for his heroic feat, doing what no other had dared—delivered by an angel, no less.
